Not a bad collection but definitely a step back. Bolson's style also feels a bit more detailed than Melo's so it stands out among the pack. The same strengths and weaknesses apply here as before the dialogue panels are great, but things get a bit wobbly when action panels come into play. We could probably have swapped this around and gave this three issues and the leading story two and it'd have worked better.Īdriana Melo and Cris Bolson continue their tag-team on art, with Melo taking 4/5 and Bolson the remaining 1. The second two issues are a bit better, but they feel hyper compressed - there's not a lot of time to deal with any of the developments going on because everything's moving so quickly. I feel like I've read the story in the first three issues before I think there are only so many UNIT plots you can do, and while it was fun to see non-NuWho companions and allies like Benton and the Brigadier again, the actual plot itself was a bit bland. These two stories were okay, nothing overly special.
Then it's time for mermaids as the Doctor discovers a stowaway in the TARDIS. Picking up from the previous volume, the Doctor, Rose, and Jack head to the past to track down their missing gargoyle friend, only to find themselves in the middle of a UNIT investigation involving giant monsters that appear and disappear at will.
